Kauri Pass Trek - Garhwal

A superb trek over Kauri pass, offering close up views of Nanda Devi and several other Garhwal Himalayan peaks, passing through beautiful meadows and mixed forest. This excellent two weak holiday comes to an end with rafting on the Ganges.

Duration: 15 days
Best Time: Mid April to May & Ending September to Mid November.
Focus: Temples, High mountains, Flowers, Birds, Isolated villages.
Highlights: Views from Kauri Pass, People, Rafting
Physical challenge: Moderate overall, but climb towards Kauri Pass is bit hard in palces.

Day 1, Arrive New Delhi around mid-night,
assistance on arrival and drive to your pre-booked hotel.. Morning free. Afternoon visit to Old Delhi. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2, Delhi-Haridwar-Shivpuri ( Train/drive)
Early morning transfer to Railway station for ‘super fast’ train to Haridwar. Sightseeing in Haridwar, after lunch drive (45kms) to Shiv Puri for overnight stay in excellent Glass House on Ganges.

Day 3, Shivpuri-Joshimath ( drive220kms/9hrs)
Today after breakfast, long drive along the mighty Alaknanda River to Joshimath (1975 m). The route is dotted with villages, and offers magnificent views of the Alaknanda Valley. Overnight in Hotel Dronagari.

Day 4, Joshimath- Auli (14kms Drive and 2hrs Trek to Gurson Buygol)
After leisurely breakfast a short drive of 14kms to Auli, from hear you will have your first views of the mountain goddess-Nanda Devi, meet trekking crew and porters and begin our 2hrs trek a gradual ascent through vast meadow to Gurson Buygal ( Meadow) camp near the small temple. Overnight in tents.

Day 5, Gurson Bugyal-Tali ( about 5/6hrs)
The trail beyond Gurson Bugyal is steep in places before we start our ascent over a rocky outcrop to a small lake beside a well constructed trail coming from Tapovan village. From the lake, the trail continues through a mixed pine and oak forest for two to three kms, Today we have fine views of the Peaks of Garwal. before a short descent to the clearing at Tali ( 3310 m). Dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 6, Tali-Dakwani ( about 6hrs)
Today we ascend the ridge above Tali and just below the ridge, the trail leads through a large meadow offering spectacular views of the Himalayas and Zanskar ranges. We then cross over the Kauri pass (3640m ), a small col in a grassy ridge. From the Pass we have beautiful views of Nanda Devi (7816 m) and Nanda Devi East Summit (7434 m). From here the route leads along the right side of the gorge past a small shepherds encampment to a clearing at Dakwani (3300m). Dinner and overnight in tents.

Day 7, Dakwani- Pana Village ( 6/7hrs).
Today the trail leads us down to a small wooden bridge ( about 30min) over the river which , then a small ascent to the ridge and then a leavel walk for about 20min and then steep Zig Zag through the woods to impressive waterfall, from hear we ascent again steep at place, until we meet a path going towards sathholi meadow, trek through the meadow with lovely wildflowers towards the last ridge, decent about 1hour to our above the Pana Village. Overnight in tents.

Day 8, Pana Village-Jhangi Rani (3/4hrs).
Easy start and trek on the main trail taking us to Jhangi, crossing the bridge take lower trail ( main), trekking through the woods we will be greet by Himalayan Languor’s, today walks is easy descents and ascents until we cross the suspension bridge over Brithi Ganga River and the gradual up of about 200mts to our campsite above Jhangi Village, looking back we can have fine views of our days trek. Afternoon visit to the village, meets villagers, see nice garhwali houses. Overnight in tents.

Day 9, Jhangi Rani to Guni ( about 7hrs).
We will continue trekking up through the forest for 450 metres to Brithi Ganga and the Nandakni valleys. The alpine flora is super through out the trek. Camp at Guni.

Day 10, Guni- Chepna ( about 3/4hrs).
Today after breakfast we trek on through the forested ridge and then decent through the mixed forest crossing nandakani river over a bridge to Chepna road head. Arrive Chepna and drive about Two hour on a rough road to Nandprayag for overnight in Tents just across the Alaknanda River. Today people can enjoy a nice dip in the river. Overnight in tents.

Day 11, Nand Prayag to Shiv Puri ( about 5/6hrs drive).
After breakfast drive along the mighty river Alaknanda and then from Dev Prayag along the Ganges to our Deluxe Rafting camp on the Beach near Shiv Puri. Overnight on lovely sandy beach, afternoon swim.

Day 12, Shiv-Puri to Rishikesh ( Rafting for about 3/4hrs).
After breakfast we set out for our rafting on the Ganges, a fantastic finish to the Spectacular trek in the lest spoilt corner of the Himalaya, to Rishikesh for overnight in Hotel. Evening experience aarti ceremony ( offering of Fire to the water) on the Ganges. Overnight in hotel.

Day 13, Rishikesh to Delhi
After breakfast drive back to Delhi, arrive and sty overnight in hotel.

Day 14, Delhi:
A free day in Delhi or optional visit to Agra to see Taj Mahal, or sightseeing in Delhi, Late night departure transfer to airport.

Day 15,
Early morning fly back to.
